Led Lights Cooler Than Incandescent

You probably know that led bulbs run dramatically cooler than their incandescent cousins but that doesn t mean they don t produce heat.

Contrary to some marketing claims led bulbs do indeed generate heat as does anything that consumes electricity. Upgrading to led lighting means you won t spend your summer months cooling down rooms that your light bulbs are busy heating up. Think about the number of lights in your house some fixtures like chandeliers or ceiling fans probably even use three bulbs or more. While originally a cooler blue tone than incandescent bulbs leds now come in daylight and warm white color temperatures so you can more easily replace your existing bulbs without altering the color of your room.

Led bulbs use more than 75 less energy than incandescent lighting. When you see a label say 100 watt led equivalent that does not mean that the bulb actually uses 100 watts it means that it produces an amount of light equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent bulb. Personally i like it at about 2700k soft white for my lamps and 3000k warm white for my recessed lights. Leds consume far less electricity than incandescent bulbs and decorative led light strings such as christmas tree lights are no different.

You can buy leds in a wide range of color temps including 2400k. Leds are much cooler than incandescent lights reducing the risk of combustion or burnt fingers. Not only do led holiday lights consume less electricity they also have the following advantages. Leds run much cooler than incandescent and halogen bulbs which greatly increases their longevity and enables them to function in cold temperatures.

Standard incandescent bulbs have a color temp of 2400k. The important thing to keep in mind is that leds consume a lot less energy than incandescent or halogen bulbs and are much more efficient in how they use that energy versus traditional bulb types. Led bulbs do get hot but the heat is pulled away by a heat. At low power levels the difference is even larger.

Bright led flood lamps use only 11 to 12 watts while creating a light output comparable to a 50 watt incandescent bulb. Unless an led is specifically infrared ir or ultraviolet uv it produces little to no ir or uv radiation which can be damaging to fabrics and artwork. The simple answer is yes as long as the led bulb uses less wattage than your fixture. But i found i like the cooler white light of the lighting sciences group bulbs rated.
